Overview
This page explains the privacy rights available to you depending on where you live, and how to exercise them. It supplements our main Privacy Policy. Calculator Matters is built to be privacy-friendly: the numbers you type into a calculator are processed in your browser and are not sent to or stored on our servers.
Your rights at a glance
- Access & portability — ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction — ask us to fix inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Deletion — ask us to erase your personal data, subject to legal exceptions.
- Opt out of ad personalisation — stop the "sale" or "sharing" of data for targeted advertising.
- No discrimination — exercising any right never changes the service you receive.
To make a request, email [email protected] or use the contact page. The sections below set out the rights in full by region.
EU and UK residents (GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the General Data Protection Regulation gives you the following rights regarding personal data we hold about you:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we process about you.
- Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Erasure — ask us to delete your personal data in certain circumstances.
- Restriction — ask us to limit how we use your data.
- Portability — receive your data in a portable format where applicable.
- Object — object to processing based on legitimate interests, and to processing for direct marketing.
- Withdraw consent — where we rely on consent (for example, certain cookies), you may withdraw it at any time.
- Complain — lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Where we process personal data, our legal bases are typically your consent (for non-essential cookies and advertising), our legitimate interests (in operating and improving the site), and compliance with legal obligations.
California residents (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the CPRA, gives you the right to:
- Know what categories of personal information are collected and how they are used.
- Delete personal information we have collected, subject to exceptions.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information, including sharing for cross-context behavioural advertising.
- Non-discrimination — you will not receive different service for exercising your rights.
Do not sell or share my personal information
We do not sell your personal information for money. However, the use of third-party advertising cookies may be considered "sharing" for targeted advertising under some laws. You can limit this by managing cookies in your browser and by opting out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings and aboutads.info. See our Cookie Policy for more.
Global Privacy Control and browser signals
Where your browser or an extension sends an opt-out preference signal such as Global Privacy Control (GPC), we treat it, where applicable, as a request to opt out of the sharing of personal information for targeted advertising — you do not need to submit a separate request. You can also manage advertising cookies directly through the controls in our Cookie Policy.
How to exercise your rights
Email [email protected] or submit a request through our contact page, and tell us which right you wish to exercise. To protect your data, we may need to verify your request before acting on it — for example by confirming details from the email address used. We aim to respond within the time frame required by the applicable law (generally one month under the GDPR and 45 days under the CCPA/CPRA, which may be extended where permitted). An authorised agent may submit a request on your behalf with appropriate proof of authorisation.
If we decline a request (appeals)
Some requests are subject to legal exceptions — for example, where we must keep certain records. If we cannot fully action a request, we will explain why. EU/UK residents may lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority, and California residents may appeal a decision by replying to our response or contacting us again at [email protected].
Changes and contact
We may update this page as laws and our practices change; the review date above reflects the latest revision. For any privacy question, email [email protected], see our Privacy Policy, or reach us through the contact page.
Privacy Rights FAQ
What personal data do you actually hold about me?
For most visitors, very little. Calculator inputs are processed in your browser and never reach our servers. We may hold a message you send us, and our hosting/analytics/ad partners process standard technical data (such as IP and device type). To request a copy of what relates to you, email [email protected].
How do I make a request, and how long does it take?
Email [email protected] or use the contact page and tell us which right you want to exercise. We aim to respond within the legal time frame — generally one month under the GDPR and 45 days under the CCPA/CPRA, extendable where permitted. We may need to verify your identity first.
Do you sell my personal information?
No — we do not sell personal information for money. Third-party advertising cookies may count as “sharing” for targeted advertising under some laws; you can opt out using the links on this page, your browser cookie controls, or a Global Privacy Control signal.
Will I get worse service if I exercise my rights or opt out?
No. We do not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights, and the calculators work exactly the same with personalised advertising turned off.
Can someone make a request on my behalf?
Yes. An authorised agent may submit a request for you with appropriate proof of authorisation, and we may still verify the request directly with you to protect your data.
