Overview
Calculator Matters ("we", "our", or "us") operates calculatormatters.com. We are committed to protecting your privacy, and the site is designed to be privacy-friendly by default: the numbers you enter into a calculator are processed in your browser and are not transmitted to or stored on our servers. This policy explains what limited data is involved when you use the site, the current advertising status, cookies, and the rights you have.
Your privacy at a glance

Information we collect
Calculator inputs (not collected): Calculations run client-side in your browser. The values you enter are processed locally and are never sent to our servers.
Preferences: Your theme (light/dark/auto) and sidebar state are stored in your browser's localStorage and never leave your device. Some calculators (for example, the mortgage, break-even, and ecommerce profit calculators) can also remember the inputs you entered in localStorage so you can pick up where you left off; this likewise stays on your device, is never sent to our servers, and is cleared by the calculator's Reset button or by clearing your browser storage. If you use a calculator's optional "Share link" button, your inputs are encoded into the link's web address so the recipient's browser can restore them — like any web address, a visited link's address is part of the page request.
Information you provide: If you contact us, we receive the information you choose to send (such as your message and any contact details) so we can respond.
Email updates (optional): If you choose to give your email address to receive our workbook library and notes on new calculators, we store that email only with your explicit consent, together with the calculator you signed up from (for our own attribution). This is entirely optional — every calculator and its downloadable workbook works without it — and you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email. We pass your email to a third-party email service provider (such as Resend, MailerLite, or Buttondown) solely to manage the list and send those emails. We never sell it, and we do not use it for advertising.
Automatically collected technical data: Like most websites, our hosting and analytics may process standard technical information such as IP address, browser type, device type, referring page, and pages viewed. Where used for analytics, we use Google Analytics 4 with IP anonymization and only after you accept on the consent banner; this data is aggregated and does not include your calculator inputs.
Google Analytics
Calculator Matters may use Google Analytics to understand site usage, improve calculator pages, measure performance, and analyze aggregate visitor behavior. Analytics may collect pages visited, device/browser information, approximate location, referring pages, and interaction events. Calculator Matters does not intentionally send personal information or user-entered calculator values to Google Analytics.
Analytics events contain only generic labels such as the calculator slug, category, page path, button location, download type, or search context. Search terms, result values, names, email addresses, phone numbers, and other personal or financial values are not included.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use browser storage for preferences and optional local scenarios, plus optional consent-controlled analytics where configured. Display advertising is currently disabled. For full detail and controls, see our website cookie settings.
Advertising and third-party vendors (Google AdSense)
Current status: Display advertising, Auto Ads, in-article ads, sidebar ads, and mobile-anchor ads are disabled. Calculator Matters does not currently load the Google AdSense script or advertising cookies.
If advertising is enabled in future, the following controls and disclosures will apply:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to our site and/or other sites on the internet.
- These advertising cookies and identifiers have historically included Google's DoubleClick DART cookie behaviour, which serves ads based on your visits to this and other sites; you can opt out of such personalised advertising using the links below.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info, or — in the EU/UK — at youronlinechoices.eu.

How we use information
We use the limited information described above to operate and secure the site, remember your preferences, understand consented aggregate usage where analytics is configured, and respond to messages you send us. We do not currently display or measure advertising.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information for money. Limited technical data may be processed by hosting and consented analytics providers under their own policies. Advertising partners are not currently loaded. If targeted advertising is enabled later, applicable sharing and opt-out disclosures must be updated before activation; see Your Privacy Rights.
Data we do NOT collect
We do not collect or store on our servers: your specific calculator inputs, the words or phrases you type into site search, or any payment card details.
Legal bases for processing (GDPR)
Where the GDPR applies, we process personal data only where we have a lawful basis: your consent for configured non-essential analytics, our legitimate interests in operating and securing the site, and compliance with legal obligations. Display advertising is currently disabled. Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, data-protection law gives you rights over the personal data we hold about you. Calculator inputs are processed in your browser and never reach our servers, so for most visitors there is very little to hold.
EU/UK residents (GDPR)
Access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection to processing based on legitimate interests or for direct marketing, and withdrawal of consent at any time. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
California residents (CCPA/CPRA)
The right to know what categories of personal information are collected and how they are used, to delete or correct it, to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information (including for cross-context behavioural advertising), and to non-discrimination for exercising any of these rights.
We do not sell personal information for money, and third-party advertising cookies are not currently loaded. If advertising is enabled in future, opt-out controls will include Google Ads Settings or aboutads.info, or send a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal from your browser, which we honor as an opt-out without a separate request. To exercise any right, email us at our contact address or use the contact page and tell us which right you want to exercise; we may need to verify your identity first, and an authorised agent may submit a request on your behalf with appropriate proof. We aim to respond within the legal time frame — generally one month under the GDPR and 45 days under the CCPA/CPRA, extendable where permitted. Some requests are subject to legal exceptions; if we cannot fully action one, we will explain why.
Data retention
We keep messages you send only as long as needed to respond and for reasonable record-keeping. If you subscribe to email updates, we keep your email address until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove it. Aggregated analytics data is retained per our providers' standard periods. Preference data lives in your browser until you clear it.
International users
Our service providers may process data in countries other than your own. Where required, appropriate safeguards are used for such transfers.
Children's privacy
Calculator Matters is a general-audience tool and is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Security
We take reasonable measures to protect the site, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Because calculations happen in your browser, the most sensitive data — your inputs — never leaves your device.
Third-party links
Our pages may link to external sites that have their own privacy policies. We are not responsible for the content or practices of those sites.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time; the "Last updated" date above reflects the latest version.

Do you store the numbers I enter into a calculator?
No. Calculations run entirely in your browser. The figures you type are processed locally and are never sent to or stored on our servers. Any saved scenario is kept only in your own browser and is cleared by the calculator’s Reset button or by clearing your browser storage.
Do you sell my personal information?
No. We do not sell personal information for money. Display advertising is currently disabled, so the site does not load Google AdSense or its advertising cookies; advertising will only be enabled after site approval and consent controls are configured.
Do you require an account or personal details?
No. The calculators are designed to work directly in your browser without requiring personal financial data, and your inputs are processed locally rather than sent to our servers.
How do I turn off personalised ads?
Calculator Matters is not currently serving display or personalised ads. If advertising is enabled in future, this policy and the Cookie Policy will describe the consent and opt-out controls before activation.
How do I delete a message I sent you, or ask what data you hold?
Use the contact page. We keep contact messages only as long as needed to respond and for reasonable record-keeping, and we will action access or deletion requests as described on the Your Privacy Rights page.
If I give my email for the workbooks, how is it used and how do I unsubscribe?
Subscribing is optional — the calculators and their workbooks work without it. If you opt in, we store your email with your consent and use it only to send the workbook library and notes on new calculators through an email service provider. We never sell it or use it for advertising, and you can unsubscribe with the link in every email.
