Macro Models Calculators

Macroeconomics is a small number of identities and a smaller number of behavioural assumptions, applied repeatedly. The calculators below cover the national accounts, the consumption and saving decisions behind them, the multipliers that follow from those decisions, the price level, the labour market and the open economy — and they connect, which is the reason to read them in one place rather than one at a time.

Inflation & Prices

National Output

  • GDP CalculatorGross domestic product by the expenditure method (C + I + G + NX) or the income method — wages, rent, interest, profit, taxes and depreciation.
  • GDP per Capita CalculatorOutput divided by population, the standard way living standards are compared between countries of very different sizes.
  • GDP Growth Rate CalculatorGrowth between two periods as a percentage and in absolute output, from nominal or real figures.
  • Spending Multiplier CalculatorThe Keynesian multiplier from the marginal propensity to consume, and the total output change an injection produces.
  • Real GDP CalculatorReal GDP from nominal GDP and the deflator or a CPI, or from base-year prices and quantities.

Income & Poverty

  • Federal Poverty Level CalculatorHousehold income as a percent of the 2026 or 2025 HHS poverty guidelines, with the income at 100% to 400% and common program lines.

Labour Market

Fiscal Policy

Money & Banking

Consumption & Saving

Saving & Investment

  • National Savings CalculatorNational saving from Y − C − G, split into private and public parts, and the investment it leaves to foreigners.
  • Private Savings CalculatorPrivate saving as income minus net taxes minus consumption, with disposable income and the saving rate.
  • Public Savings CalculatorThe government’s budget balance as saving — taxes less transfers less purchases — and its share of GDP.
  • Net Capital Outflow CalculatorNet capital outflow from asset flows, from saving minus investment, or from net exports — all three equal.

Trade & Exchange Rates

The national accounts: what output is

GDP Calculator builds output from the expenditure identity, Y = C + I + G + NX, which is where almost everything else starts. Real GDP Calculator strips inflation out of it, and GDP Deflator Calculator is the ratio between the two — the broadest price index an economy has. GDP Growth Rate Calculator and GDP per Capita Calculator answer the two questions people actually ask of that number: is it growing, and is there more of it per person. Debt-to-GDP Ratio Calculator and National Debt Per Person Calculator put government borrowing on the same scale so the comparison means something.

Consumption and saving: the behaviour underneath

Everything about multipliers follows from one number: how much of an extra rupee or dollar of income gets spent. Marginal Propensity to Consume Calculator measures exactly that, and Marginal Propensity to Save Calculator is its complement — the two sum to one, which is worth checking your own figures against. Average Propensity to Consume Calculator and Average Propensity to Save Calculator ask the same question of total income rather than the next unit of it, and they differ from the marginal versions whenever consumption has a fixed component. Consumption Function Calculator and Savings Function Calculator put those pieces into the two lines the Keynesian cross is drawn from. National Savings Calculator, Private Savings Calculator and Public Savings Calculator then close the saving identity: national saving is private plus public, and a government deficit is negative public saving.

Multipliers: why a change is larger than itself

If people spend a fraction of each extra unit of income, one round of spending becomes many. Spending Multiplier Calculator gives the size of that effect for government purchases, and Tax Multiplier Calculator gives the smaller one for a tax change — smaller because the first round of a tax cut is partly saved rather than spent, which is the single most commonly missed point in the topic. Marginal Propensity to Import Calculator shrinks both, because spending that leaves the country does not come round again. Money Multiplier Calculator is the banking analogue: how far reserves expand into deposits. Velocity of Money Calculator and Quantity Theory of Money Calculator connect that stock of money to the price level through MV = PY.

Prices and interest: nominal against real

Almost every mistake in applied macro is a nominal figure treated as a real one. Inflation Rate Calculator measures the change in the price level; Personal Inflation Rate Calculator does it against your own basket rather than the national one, which is usually a different number. Real Interest Rate Calculator and Fisher Equation Calculator convert between nominal and real rates — the approximation r ≈ i − π is fine at low inflation and wrong at high inflation, and the exact form shows where it breaks. Federal Poverty Level Calculator applies an official threshold that is itself indexed to prices.

Labour and the open economy

Unemployment Rate Calculator and Labor Force Participation Rate Calculator have to be read as a pair: unemployment can fall because people found work or because they stopped looking, and only the participation rate distinguishes the two. Labor Force Calculator is the denominator both depend on. On the external side, Net Exports Calculator is the NX term from the first identity, Real Exchange Rate Calculator adjusts the nominal rate for relative prices, and Net Capital Outflow Calculator states the accounting fact that a trade surplus and net lending abroad are the same thing seen from two sides.
